Growth and Decline Essay Example for Free
Growth and Decline Essay Areas of growth and decline in the primary, secondary and tertiary classifications of business activities Firstly the primary sector, obtain or produces raw goods. The secondary sector manufactures and constructs goods. Finally the tertiary sector provides services to businesses and/or individuals. Over time whole sectors can grow or decline. Absolute growth or decline means that on its own a sector is getting bigger or smaller. If this type of decline happened continuously, one day a sector would disappear. Relative growth or decline means a sector is doing better or worse compared with other sectors. It may be growing relative to other sectors but still not doing very well. Or it may be declining relative to other sectors, but doing quite well on its own. Overall the primary and secondary sector is declining and the tertiary sector is growing. This is because we as a country are becoming more of a service culture. The primary and secondary sector has decreased because we can now use machinery to do certain jobs that people used to do and so people have to find work elsewhere in the tertiary sector. The primary sector has decreased rapidly through time from 1980 to 2002 and the employment rate for primary industries has decreased by over 65% going from 3. 6% to 1. 4%. This is because people no longer produce their own food or own animals for meat and so as the years went on people started to trade the food that they produced and the animals they owned for other products which leads on to the tertiary sector. However within the sector the output has risen from. Fishing fleets, coal mining and quarrying are all examples of areas in the primary sector that has declined. This is because machinery can do most jobs that people used to do, foreign industries also became more competitive and imports such as coal became more affordable. As the availability of coal declined in the UK, and also became more expensive to extract more coal was imported. This led to a further decline in primary sector employment in the UK. The primary sector has although increased in its organic food production, wind farming, fish farming and oil and natural gas extraction. The number of organic producers has risen from 6,038 organic producers in 2004 to 7,567 organic producers in 2009 this is because the demand for organic food has increased as more and more people want to eat food without artificial fertilizers and pesticides. However even with this increase the primary sector is declining compared to the secondary and tertiary sectors as employment for the primary sector in 2008 is only 1. 6% of the UK whereas the secondary sector has an employment rate of 17. 6% in 2008 and the tertiary sector has an employment rate of 80. % in 2008. This shows that the primary sector is declining along with the secondary sector but at a much more drastic rate. The secondary sector is doing better than the primary sector as pointed out in my last paragraph however is declining largely compared to the tertiary sector. Between 2005 and 2008 the secondary sector was on the rise as employment in manufacturing increased and the output of the secondary sector increased. H owever as the recession hit, the secondary sector saw a decline of output from 23% in 2008 to 6. 5% at the start of 2009. The areas hit most were industries metal products, transport (engineering) and construction. Over 140,000 jobs were lost in the motor industry, BAE systems cut 500 jobs and SANYO closed its factory which made televisions ââ¬â ever since no factory in Britain made televisions. Later in 2009 the decline started to slow down but hasnââ¬â¢t improved much since as companies are still making cut backs. Going back to 2005-2008 the areas that were most successful in the secondary sector were the food and drink industry, drugs and pharmaceuticals, weapons, ammunitions, energy, electrical and optical equipment and finally paper and publishing.

Meno - Shape :: essays research papers
"Shape is that which alone of existing things always follows color." "A shape is that which limits a solid; in a word, a shape is the limit of a solid." In the play Meno, written by Plato, there is a point in which Meno asks that Socrates give a definition of shape. In the end of it, Socrates is forced to give two separate definitions, for Meno considers the first to be foolish. As the two definitions are read and compared, one is forced to wonder which, if either of the two, is true, and if neither of them are true, which one has the most logic. When comparing the first definition of shape: "that which alone of existing things always follows color," to the second definition: "the limit of a solid", it can be seen that the difference in meaning between the two is great. Not only in the sense that the first is stated simply and can be defended easily, while the later is more difficult to comprehend and back up; but also in the sense that the second would have to involve the defiance of mathematical theories and/or proofs in order to stand true, while the first does not. It should also be noted that in the first def inition, the word "a" is never mentioned. Socrates is not making a statement about "a shape" or "a color", but about shape and color themselves. In the definition given to please Meno, Socrates' words are "a shape" and "a solid". It can be taken from earlier discussions in the play that the second definition is simply a definition of a shape, rather than a definition of shape in and of itself. In the simple sentence that Socrates originally gives to Meno, he has not given then definition of a shape, rather he has given the definition of the term shape. For example, if a person was asked what a triangle is, the response would most likely be that it is a shape, but shape would never be defined as shape itself. It is simply an object that falls under the category of shape. Therefore, in one sentence, Socrates has put a definition to shape, for without color there can be no shape, there could not even be a shape to fall under the category that would have once been known as "shape". None of the examples that Socrates and Meno discussed could prove the definition false.

A comparison of Kern County and Sierra Nevadas Essay -- essays researc
Of Oak Stumps and Oil Pumps à à à à à The Great Sierra Nevadas and Kern County are two strikingly different faces of California. The Sierra Nevadas, a natural refuge for a sizeable number of Californiaââ¬â¢s wildlife, houses opportunities for harvesting lumber, a spiritual place to camp or hike on, and simply as an aesthetic marvel in contrast to LAââ¬â¢s bustling city streets. Kern Countyââ¬â¢s industrial benefits come from Black Gold, oil. The Kern River discovery started an oil boom, and a forest of wooden derricks sprang up overnight. Kern County resembles a dry rocky land. A noticeable lack of movement except for a thousand oil pumps bowing incessantly like Buddhist monks in a trance of prayer. These two places are similar in that they are resource-full and beauties to behold, but, The foothills of the Sierra Nevadas outweighs Kern County through its natural majesty, its beauty; Kern County on the other hand, has more financial worth because of its rich oil deposits which give it its ind ustrial feel. à à à à à The inhabitants of the Sierra Nevadas are inspired to live in a nature filled environment, away from busy city streets and bright neon lights. The Great Sierraââ¬â¢s geography outlines its beauty by being surrounded with a dry, hardwood conifer forest, drought-resistant shrubs and bushes in the canyons; as is described by Gary Snyder in ââ¬Å"Cultivating Wildernessâ⬠(Snyder 256). This place brings a feeling of growth and provides agricultural ...

Shift Happens, one way or another Essays
Shift Happens, one way or another Essays Shift Happens, one way or another Essay Shift Happens, one way or another Essay Shift happens, one way or another. The automobile comes in many shapes and sizes. But the color of a car or how many cup holders it has usually isnt the determining factor when purchasing a new car. One of the most important choices to be made would be whether or not to get a car with an automatic transmission or a manual transmission. The advantages and disadvantages of owning a vehicle with either type of transmission varies from one driver to the next. Loyal automatic transmission drivers are convinced that manuals re difficult to learn to drive because of an extra pedal called the clutch. While on the other hand an experienced manual transmission driver would view automatics as simple machines that require very little skill to operate. Many drivers out there prefer the automatic transmission because learning to use and operate one is very easy. They have a steering wheel, a shifter, a parking brake, and two foot pedals for the gas and brakes. With the shifter in the park position starting an automatic vehicle is as simple as turning the key. Once that is done the operator puts the shifter into the drive position and gives a push on the gas pedal with the right foot. The operator only has to use the shifter once to get the car going, and to stop the operator simply eases their right foot down on the brake pedal. Many parents would agree that this kind of vehicle is ideal for teaching teenagers how to drive for the first time. They spend less time worrying about the car itself and more time focused on the road. For someone learning to drive for the first time the automatic transmission makes this task a breeze. Manual transmissions on the other hand are very different. Manuals also have a steering wheel, park brake, and shifter but instead having of two foot pedals manuals have three. Manual transmissions require more physical and mental work from the operator to get the vehicle moving. Just turning the car on has more steps then an automatic car. To start a manual car the driver first makes sure that the shifter is in the neutral position. Once this is determined the driver will then push the clutch down with their left foot and turn the key. A manual transmission has to be physically put into gear by the driver using the clutch and the shifter; where as an automatic transmission goes this on its own. Pressing down on the clutch with the left foot then moving the shifter into the first gear position with the right hand, the driver gradually lets off of the clutch while at the same time slowly pressing down on the gas pedal with the right foot. This will make the car move forward and as the revolutions per minute (RPM) reach their peak for first gear, the driver repeats the last step ending with the smelter In ten next consecutive gear. I en earlier teen repeats tons step until a asleep traveling speed has been achieved. To come to a stop the driver first has to signage the transmission by pushing the clutch down and returning the shifter to the neutral position, only then can the driver press down on the brake with their right foot to bring the car to a complete stop. Compared to an automatic transmission the manual transmission is far more complex, yet most dont know that cars with manual transmissions get slightly better gas mileage than automatic vehicles. A manual vehicle unlike an automatic vehicle takes a lot of physical activity to operate but it also demands significant mental activity as well. Operating a car with a manual transmission requires the undivided attention of he driver. Using both hands and feet to operate the steering wheel, the shifter, and three foot pedals keeps the driver focused on the car, the road, and the other drivers. Manual car drivers would even argue they gain sharper reflexes from exercising their hand eye coordination on a daily basis. Almost making manual vehicle drivers more in tune with what is going on around them. This is one reason why automatic vehicle owners see the manual transmission as intimidating. With a manual vehicle the driver has little room for any distractions where as automatic vehicles need less hysterical movement and concentration. Eating, testing, talking on the phone, putting on makeup, even changing the radio station is problematic when driving a manual car safely and effectively. Operating an automatic vehicle requires little shifting and has no clutch but it inadvertently subjects the driver to possible distractions like the ones Just mentioned. Yet they make driving possible for people with certain physical disabilities by having that simple operating system. A manual transmission is not as accommodating. If you drive an automatic car think about learning to drive a car with a manual if Seibel Just see what it is like. It may seem difficult or annoying but you will never take the car you do have for granted. If you happened to be a seasoned manual car driver Just think about being stuck in rush hour traffic and all that shifting you have to do and never going faster than twenty miles an hour. Each transmission type demands a certain amount of respect because they both have qualities that millions of people all over the world enjoy. Whatever you prefer manual or automatic Just remember to love your car have fun and above all be safe for yourself and all your fellow drivers.

Criteria for eco-hotel Essays
Criteria for eco-hotel Essays Criteria for eco-hotel Essay Criteria for eco-hotel Essay has as its chief nonsubjective the purpose to supply practical and low-priced agencies by which cordial reception companies can follow regulations to set about environment betterments base on international guidelines. 1.5 Policies and Standards set for Eco-Hotels There are several topographic points in the universe whereby green hotels/ eco hotels are now being practiced. In most instances, by puting up several Torahs and ordinances on hotel building, authorities has forced the hotels builder in building eco-hotels. There are besides several associations which are contending for a more eco-friendly edifices and hotels. A few key constructing environmental appraisal tools soon in usage comprise of: Canada: LEED Canada / Green Globes China: GBAS India: Indian Green Building Council ( IGBC ) / GRIHA Japan: CASBEE United States: LEED / Populating Building Challenge / Green Globes / Build it Green / NAHB NGBS / International Green Construction Code International Green Construction Code ( IGCC ) United Kingdom: BREEAM A few key constructing environmental appraisal tools such as BREEAM ( United Kingdom ) , and CASBEE ( Japan ) are a great aid for the consumers in finding a construction s purpose and degree of the environmental achievement. They reward credits for optional building characteristics which sustain green theoretical account in classs such as the site location and upholding of edifice site, preservation of H2O, etc. The phase of accomplishments are so determined through the figure of credits. Governments have begun to command a decrease in the usage of energy and emanations. In US in the building industry, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design besides known as LEED, is being developed as a widely-accepted criterion. The LEED enfranchisement has been modified by the U.S. Green Building Council to give installations to all edifices to gain points in many classs, assisting therefore the hotel operators to be able to obtain enfranchisement for their existing services. They therefore earn points by being sustainable in: The low energy usage which reduces the release of air pollutants and nursery gases By cut downing H2O ingestion by 30 % The usage of recycle merchandises to restitute. The usage of advanced engineerings that help in cut downing energy use therefore accomplishing other types of sustainability. There is on about 1,200 LEED-certified edifices till the terminal of 2008, most of which are new alternatively of renovated edifices. The authorities besides plays a really important function in the industry s eco- environment, non merely by making environmental resources to assist the industry. The authorities functionaries besides shared their acquired experience on ecological work with the practicians. Harmonizing to the United Nations Environmental Program, 2001, the Gallic Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environment along with some hotels has been patronizing the devising of learning stuffs for environmental issues. The Hong Kong and Gallic authorities besides shows the importance of prosecuting sustainable touristry by funding two instances. Mentioning to: Hotels environmental direction systems ( ISO 14001 ) by Wilco W. Chan and Kenny Ho we can see the chart with the different sections and its purposes. Introduced in China during the twelvemonth 2003 with the publication of China Hotel Association s criterions for green hotels, it was targeted to construct and develop 10,000 green hotels by 2010. In May 2007, URBN Hotels A ; Resorts, a hotel situated in Shanghai, entered into an agreement with Emissions Zero, a company which sells beginnings nursery gas emanations. URBN plans was to cipher the hotel s entire sum of energy consumed, to so buy credits in order to cut down its footmark by puting In the local green undertakings. In the islands where touristry industry is backbone for economic growing, due to the fright of losing developers, there is frequently a deficiency of ordinances. Two illustrations are Barbados and Jamaica, whereby they utilize financess raised to organizing the Plan for a Sustainable Tourism and the Tourism Product Development Company. They have developed course of studies refering sustainable patterns for the different hotelkeepers. The Government enterprises for illustrations such as Energy Conservation Building Code 2007 are largely focused on how to continue environment. A new codification had been launched June 2007 clearly specified that merely the energy public presentation demands for all commercial edifices will constructed in India. 1.6 IPD Environment Code In February 2008 the IPD Environment Code, which was supposed to be a good pattern planetary criterion, has been launched. The Code was introduces in order to mensurate the environmental public presentation of corporate edifices. Its purpose is to accurately measure, measure and cover with the environmental impacts of commercial edifices. The Code covers a wide array of edifice types which have as purposes to: environmental program creative activity Communicating a duty to the betterment of the environment. Create public presentation marks Environmental betterment programs Life rhythm appraisals United Nations ( UN ) has introduces an Agenda 21 which is connected to sustainable development, a design of action. It is supposed to be taken internationally, on a national graduated table and locally by different types of organisations of the UN, authoritiess, and major groups that is in every portion in which the worlds has an consequence on the environment. A great figure of organisations, due to the increasing involvement in eco-building constructs, are now developing the different criterions and evaluation systems which are promoting the authorities s regulators every bit good as the building professional in following eco-buildings with more strong belief. There are besides different codifications being written which are now being adopted by the authorities in order to cut down the different environmental impacts of all the edifices. 1.7 Eco activities offered to tourers by Eco-Hotels Over the past old ages, the touristry industry has begun to advance and spread out and some tourers adopted and supported the construct of ecotourism, particularly in coastal and marine locations ( Miller, 1991 ; Miller A ; Auyong, 1991b ; Grenier et al. , ) . Ecotourism day of the months to twelvemonth 1965 when Hetzer required a reconsidering of cultural instruction in touristry context and promoted ecological touristry ( eco-tourism ) . Today eco-tourism has become an international construct that makes up the rules of saving, preservation and sustainable development. Harmonizing to Valentine ( 1991 ) in the literature ecotourism is besides recognised as adventure touristry, nature-oriented touristry, alternative touristry, appropriate touristry, soft touristry , responsible touristry, ethical touristry, environment-friendly travel, green touristry, sustainable touristry, and nature touristry. The list could be extended with other options like equality touristry, ethni c touristry, cultural touristry, socio-ecological touristry, photo-safari touristry, dive touristry or surfing touristry . A tourer activity, a private venture or authorities service, and a usher for ethical behavior are some proficient definitions given to ecotourism. For Hetzer ( 1965 ) , responsible eco-tourism is assessed against four criterions: Minimal environmental impact ; Minimum impact on and maximal regard for host civilizations ; Maximum economic benefits to the host state s grassroots ; and Maximum recreational satisfaction to take parting tourers. The Ecotourism Society, a non-profit administration created in 1990 to function circuit operators, preservation professionals, protected country direction specializers, research workers, and ushers, among others, defines ecotourism as responsible travel that conserves the environment and sustains the wellbeing of local people. For illustration in Shanti Maurice hotel, along with the local dweller, usage composting for waste decrease. However, there is non yet any standard method to quantify the sum of ecotourism. Knocks ( 1992 ) notes that, while generic touristry additions around 4 % yearly, ecotourism is turning at a rate of 30 % . Lindberg ( 1991 ) stated that nature-based touristry contributed between $ 2 and $ 12 billion in 1988 to the economic systems of developing states. Harmonizing to Miller ( 1993 ) , today, demand for travel shows greater divergence and magnitude than of all time before, so doing the touristry industry the biggest concern on the Earth. The addition in handiness of public conveyance, auto ownership, outbound travel, and new involvements in nature based ecotourism, with the increased leisure clip implies a promising hereafter to marine eco-tourism. As a consequence more careful and elaborate readying and planning is necessary to suit the estimated reaching of tourers to coastal countries. But still ecotourism is frequently disadvantaged by limited entree, deficiency of conveyance and hapless resort installations, including lodging installations. It is indispensable to accomplish a good balance between the development of leisure and the saving of natural resources is to prolong the high quality of recreational activities. The construct of the 3s ( sea, sand, Sun ) touristry is altering to more sustainable touristry activities. How to Use Verbs of Change in Japanese
How to Use Verbs of Change in Japanese There are many verbs that express change in Japanese. The most basic one is, naru (to become). The verb naru is used in [Noun ni naru] and [basic Verb you ni naru]. "~ Ni Naru" Michiko wa kyonen bengoshi ni narimashita. é âÃ¥ 㠯åŽ »Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¥ ¼ è ·Ã¥ £ «Ã£ «Ã£ ªÃ£âŠã ¾Ã£ â"ã Ÿ.Michiko became a lawyer last year.Yamada-sensei wa rainen kouchou ni narimasu. Ã¥ ± ±Ã§â °Ã¥â¦ËçâŸã ¯Ã¦ ¥Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¦ ¡Ã©â¢ ·Ã£ «Ã£ ªÃ£âŠã ¾Ã£ â¢Ã£â¬âMr. Yamada will become principal next year.Tomoko wa hirou no tame, byouki ni narimashita. æ⢠ºÃ¥ 㠯çâ" ²Ã¥Å ´Ã£ ®Ã£ Ÿãâ ã⬠çâ"â¦Ã¦ °â"㠫㠪ãâŠã ¾Ã£ â"ã Ÿãâ¬âà Tomoko became sick from fatigue.Mada natsu ni narimasen. 㠾ã Ã¥ ¤ 㠫㠪ãâŠã ¾Ã£ âºÃ£ââãâ¬âà Summer has not yet come. In these sentences, the words, bengoshi kouchou byouki and natsu all express the resulting state. As for the fourth example, the subject is omitted. Natures seasonal changes, such as it getting hotter and spring arriving, are described using naru. For example, natsu ni narimashita Ã¥ ¤ 㠫㠪ãâŠã ¾Ã£ â"ã Ÿ, which literally means, it has become summer. The English expression would be summer has come. Change in Adjectives Change in state may be expressed not only by nouns, as seen in the examples above, but also by adjectives. When accompanied by adjectives, they take adverbial form. As for the I-adjective, replace the final ~ i with ~ ku to make the adverbial form.
